Kanne Group and Gategroup found the joint venture “foodgallery”

Together with the Swiss Gategroup Holding AG, the world’s leading airline caterer, we have entered into a joint venture in the catering sector under the name foodgallery as of September 21, 2022. Under the new name, we are now pooling our expertise for new gastronomic concepts – Gategroup’s system competence and many years of global expertise in the premium catering segment meet the Kanne Group’s retail expertise in the gastronomy sector. Under the joint leadership of Henrik Kanne (Kanne Group) and Carsten Oellerich (Gategroup), the joint venture is characterized by new approaches and sustainable, profitable growth. A joint venture of this kind is currently unique in the German food service market.

Through the collaboration, foodgallery creates a new quality and expertise with individually tailored hospitality and an orientation characterized by global insights. The aim of foodgallery is to create new, exciting concepts that can shape and further develop fresh impulses and inspiration in the German gastronomy scene. The aim is to create excellent quality gastronomy, completely independent of location and purpose – for example in system catering.

Hermann Kanne, CEO and main shareholder of the Kanne Group: “We are very proud to have found a strong partner for our innovative gastronomy concepts who wants to generate completely new concepts and sustainable growth with us.”

The first concept managed by foodgallery has been welcoming guests to Berlin’s Humboldt Forum since April 2022: Wilhelm Alexander, designed by the Kanne Group.

As a new culinary focal point in the Humboldt Forum, the Wilhelm Alexander concept with the two locations Restaurant Wilhelm and Deli Alexander has set itself the goal of offering visitors a corresponding culinary selection based on the diversity of voices in the Humboldt Forum. Both locations are also directly integrated into the exhibition concept in the Humboldt Forum: three of the 35 traces in the Humboldt Forum that commemorate important events and aspects of the history of the site are located in the Wilhelm Alexander.

With this historically inspired, innovative concept, the Kanne Group won a Europe-wide tender from the Humboldt Forum even before the joint venture was founded – now the Wilhelm Alexander serves as the starting point for a successful future for foodgallery. Further concepts will be developed, tested and implemented on the basis of the experience gained there. The individual strengths of a family-run and a group-run company can be utilized.

Alexander Spahn, Gategroup: “Within a very short space of time, we have succeeded in using the strengths of both partners to present our joint expertise in Berlin.”
