Hi there, it’s me again, Henrike. After telling you about everyday school life in my last blog entry, I’m now moving on to a topic that nobody really wants to talk about anymore: Corona. It’ll only be very short, I promise.

I think we trainees all imagined the first year of our apprenticeship a little differently. No fresh lunch because the kitchen is closed (although it has to be said that we are very privileged). Keeping a distance of about 1 km during lunch breaks and shouting across the room to talk to each other in order to comply with the coronavirus rules. No big Christmas party where everyone drinks a little too much. No writing exams because the schools are closed and you have homeschooling – too bad.

Despite all these things, I think I can speak for all the trainees here when I say that we have settled in very well. As I’ve been talking about everything but my apprenticeship and what I do, here’s a little insight:

As a draughtswoman, there are many new tasks waiting for me every day. These include, for example, drawing floor plans, creating tiling plans, working out detailed views and much more. Of course, it still takes a little time to get every keystroke right, but practice makes perfect.

One day I was allowed to go to Juist to take measurements and pictures. At first I was afraid that I wasn’t seaworthy, but this fear was drowned out after a short time when we came to rest on a sandbank. Although it was quite exhausting and stressful, I think it’s cool to get out of the office and see the projects on site.

Until then. Stay healthy and take care of yourselves!
